I feel like it was just St. Patrick's Day, but can you believe that Easter will be here in like 2 weeks?! One of the best things about being married is being able to mesh traditions of your past with new ones you create. I'm really excited for Easter this year because I get to make an Easter basket for Evan! My mom always made us Easter baskets which were always full of sweet surprises and some of my favorite candies.
I don't usually eat a lot of candy except for the occasional bag of peanut M&Ms and gummy bears. I get super excited when I can find the dark chocolate peanut M&Ms and ever since trying these champagne gummy bears, I admittedly like to keep those on hand. I mean you only live once, so a few gummy bears every day isn't the worst thing, right? But when it comes to Easter, there are 3 candies that I especially love that you can only get this time of year.
1. Homemade candies from my Nana's church
One of the things that I would look forward to most was a giant box from my Nana in the spring. I knew the box contained the most delicious handmade chocolate confections that were made by members of her church...but they only made them for Easter! There were peanut butter eggs, coconut eggs and all kinds of chocolate covered fruits and nuts. She always sent one of everything so we never missed out. Though my nana is gone, I will always think of her when I think of those delicious Easter sweets.
2. Cadbury Creme Eggs
To be honest, I don't remember the first time I had one, but I know the from that first bite I was hooked. There was something so exciting about taking the first bite. I was filled with anticipation because I couldn't wait to get to the creme filling. I will admit that to me the creme filling seems more like the consistency of icing rather than a creme, but whatever it is it's delicious!
I know there are all kind of crazy shapes and flavors, but for me it's all about the pastel colored chicks and bunnies that were only available at Easter way back in the day. I always loved seeing all the colors together in the basket. I am a sucker for anything in a rainbow display. It takes so much self control to not buy one of everything. Does that happen to anyone else?
Even though I love dressing up for Easter, this striped navy dress may make me opt for a more casual look. It's so comfortable and I love that there are pockets for you to hide all the eggs during the Easter egg hunt...that way no one really knows how many you have until the very end. I decided to pair them with my favorite pair of espadrilles, but you could also wear a pair of strappy heels with them and it would be just as cute. Plus you could wear this dress as a coverup at the beach or for a brunch date.
Do you have any special Easter candies you really love?
