How did you start blogging?
The third time was a charm for me. I started several years ago with a food blog, but realized I loved eating more then I liked recipe creating. After a few years past, I decided to start a style blog.
What was your major in college and where did you go?
I went to the University of Houston and majored in Hotel and Restaurant Management, as well as Retailing and Consumer Sciences with a minor in Marketing and Beverage Management and Marketing.
Did you ever think you would be a blogger?
I had no idea that I would be a blogger! I thought I was going to be an event planner or a fashion journalist. I will always love events and will come up with any excuse to throw a party. Cocktail party anyone?!
Who takes your photos and what kind of camera/equipment do you use?
All my photos are taken by my husband, Evan. We used to shoot with a Nikon D40X with a 35mm lens, but he recently upgraded to a shiny new Nikon D750 with a 50mm lens! When we have to shoot indoors, we use a triple umbrella continuous lighting kit. FYI, Natural light is always the best!
How do you make money on your website?
I make money through affiliate programs and sponsored content. When you click on certain links, I may get a commission from the click and/or purchase. If I’m working with a sponsor, I will let you know by saying the post is “sponsored” and gift items will be noted with “c/o”. I promise that all opinions and thoughts are my own and appreciate you supporting those brands that support Cheers J.
If you had to give advice to someone just starting a blog, what would it be?
Have a plan, be prepared for failure and always come back to why you started your blog in the first place. As a planner it was hard to deal with all the unknowns of blogging, but now I look at them as creative challenges. Things won’t always work out as planned, but as long as you learn something from it it’s not a failure. Having a blog can be overwhelming, but remind yourself of why you started it in the first place and keep your focus on that. But if that doesn’t work, drink a glass of bubbly and start fresh tomorrow.
