Bardot top: ASOS, My top is only available in a few sizes so pick yours up before it's gone! It's also available in maternity and curvy sizes. This all white ruffled one and this plain white one are almost identical to my top. // White jeans: LOFT, This cropped pair and distressed pair are also perfect for summer // Navy heels: Dorothy Perkins, Love this slingback heel, this similar pump which comes in a ton of colors and this block heel sandal // Navy clutch: Not available, but I love this similar Dune clutch for only $26 and of course you can't go wrong with a classic embossed leather clutch // Gold bangle: Kate Spade, These are great simple everyday bangles that also come in silver and rose gold. They're easy to stack and mix and match. // Flower earrings: Sadly my earrings aren't available, but this stud is very similar and this reversible flower stud earring is super fun. // Lipcolor: Estee Lauder lipstick in 'Tumltuous Pink', This is one of the longest lasting lipsticks I've found. It's creamy and doesn't dry out your lips...totally worth a slighty higher price tag!
Today I want to talk about the bardot top. Just as a side note, a bardot top is the same thing as an off the shoulder top. I think that bardot is a much prettier name so that's what I'm going to call it...anyways, that's neither here nor there. It's a classic style top that you can get so much wear out of, but I've had a very difficult time finding one.
Most of the bardot tops I looked at had giant sleeves or were actually body suits, neither of which are really my style. Pieces with a lot of fabric tend to overwhelm me and body suits...well they're just not me. I think having to wear a leotard for dance has made me have an aversion to anything that looks or feels remotely like a leotard. If you've ever worn one, you might get why they're aren't exactly the most comfortable thing in the world.
When I think of the ideal bardot top, I think of those that Audrey Hepburn frequently wore with black pants and the iconic one that Grace Kelly wore with a beautiful Dior skirt. These tops showed off their natural figure, just the right amount of skin and the versatility of how the top can be styled. So when I was looking for the perfect bardot top, there were 3 things I was looking for: fit, fabric and color.
I finally found this darling ruffled bardot top from ASOS. It was everything that I had been searching for. I loved that it was longer and more fitted so that I wasn't swimming in fabric. I'll be able to tuck it into a midi skirt, wear it with leggings as a transitional outfit or with white jeans for a classic (almost) all white look. And since it's a cotton fabric it will be cool in the summer but great for when the temperatures start to cool down.
It was actually more difficult than I thought it would be to find a top in a neutral color like white. I guess that's too boring for most people, but I wanted a white top so that I could wear it with most of what I have in my closet. I loved the tiny bit of color that the striped ruffle added so that it wasn't boring. So suffice it to say, sometimes knowing what you want and not being willing to settle for anything less means you'll end up finding your perfect piece. I know I sure did!
